Đakovački Pisak is a suburban settlement east of Đakovo that is home to a branch of the Parish of the Good Shepherd in Đakovo. The settlement has a small church, the Church of St. John the Baptist. It was built in 1976 during the time of Bishop Ćiril Kos. It was built by the locals themselves, who volunteered their labour and gave contributions.
Historical records
According to the record found in the Memorial Book of the All Saints Parish in Đakovo, the first mass was offered in the newly built church in Pisak on 9 May 1976, on which occasion the patron saint of the village was changed; prior to that, it was St. John of Nepomuk. The new patron saint that was chosen was St. John the Baptist, and the new Church of St. John the Baptist was consecrated on 24 June 1981. Since then, that church and St. John’s Shrine, which attracts throngs of pilgrims on the feast day and on the Day of Martyrdom of St. John the Baptist, 29 August.
Pisak is a local place of pilgrimage in honour of St. John the Baptist. Pilgrims arrive in many numbers especially on two occasions during the year: the holidays celebrating the Nativity of John the Baptist, 24 June, and Martyrdom of John the Baptist, 28 August.
